Macro and Landscape Photography Workshop purple heather
Play with colour and light in the beautiful purple scenery of the Limburgse Kempen.
Colourful landscape photography
Every summer nature conjures the most beautiful purple carpet of flowering heather. We go in search of magnificent hilly heathlands, shrouded in a layer of fog, in Park Midden Limburg. We focus on creating good compositions and the use of foreground elements to create depth.
Later that morning we go looking for nice details and all kinds of insects and we try to capture them in a creative way. We also pay special attention to creating a beautiful bokeh and the correct use of graduated neutral density filters.
Programme
We start in the field before dawn in order to photograph the heather during the best moments of the day. Later on in the morning we exchange our wide angle lens for a macro lens and we look for all kinds of insects or tree frogs.

- L. De Meyer
Is this workshop right for you?
This workshop is not suitable for beginners: basic concepts and camera settings are not covered. You need to have experience with landscape and macro photography and be able to easily adjust exposure and settings of your camera. You are familiar with a histogram and you use it fluently. New participants are advised to attend the Basics of Nature Photography Workshop first.
We are visiting a vast landscape, which involves a bit of walking to reach the best locations.
In case of bad weather there is a chance that the workshop will have to be postponed, so you are expected to keep the entire weekend (incl. nearby holidays) free. This way I can choose the best day based on the weather and guarantee all participants the best possible workshop.
What is included?
- One-to-one guidance: the group is kept small to guarantee this
- A practical cheat sheet with a summary of the most important settings and features
- Personal follow-up after the workshop via email
- Free use of all kind of equipment during the workshop
